Allows one against Paraguay
Freese allowed one goal and recorded zero saves in Friday's 4-1 win over Paraguay.
Analysis: Freese was given the nod in the net over Matt Turner on Friday and was not asked to do a whole lot. He would only face one shot on net, but unfortunately, that shot did find the back of the net. This is likely not how he wanted to start his tournament despite the win, especially as he gets used to the world stage. He will now have Australia next, a team he could have another relatively quiet game against.
Likely to start for USMNT
Freese is expected to be the No. 1 goalkeeper for the USMNT in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Analysis: Freese has three clean sheets and 21 goals allowed in 15 matches with New York City FC in the 2026 MLS season. Even though USA has another dependable goalkeeper in Matt Turner, it seems Freese will be the one between the posts when the Stars and Stripes open their WC campaign against Paraguay on Friday, June 12.
