Standout defensive effort in loss
Bacuna generated one shot (zero on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) in Sunday's 7-1 defeat to Germany.
Analysis: Bacuna missed his lone chance to threaten the opposing goal and had few more opportunities to show his attacking talent this time, but he made up for it with a game-high five interceptions and a clearance off the goal line which helped prevent an even worse defeat. While his upside remains limited as part of an underdog team, he should be one of the most consistent threats on the squad and may be able to push forward in future matches while carrying occasional defensive work along with duel-winning strength. Prior to the match against Germany, he had produced one goal plus two assists over his previous six appearances for both club and country.
Maestro in midfield
Bacuna has been named in Curacao's World Cup squad and is expected to be one of the most creative and threatening midfield options at coach Advocaat's disposal.
Analysis: Bacuna spent the season on loan at FC Volendam in the Eredivisie after joining from Gaziantep, contributing his characteristic creativity and goal threat from central midfield with one goal and three assists across 27 appearances and two clubs. The midfielder brings 14 international goals and the ability to drive forward and influence games in both directions, making him one of the most dangerous players in the squad. Bacuna heads into the World Cup as one of the most experienced and technically gifted figures in a historic Curacao campaign.
